Bairath is a historical place, situated at a distance of about 86 km from Jaipur on Shahpura-Alwar road. The existence of this place dates back to the times of Mahabharata when Bairath was known as Virata Nagar. According to the legends the Pandavas are believed to have spent a year in Bairath while they were in exile. The historical importance of this place can be gauged from the fact that ancient artifacts and remains of Maurya, Mughal and Rajput have
been excavated from this place. Some of the excavations are believed to have belonged to the Mauryan Empire which predicts that this place thrived as a Buddhist establishment.
